Teddie - is fighting to walk

When two month old Teddie was handed into Birmingham Dogs Home in October 2020 it was clear that he had a severe disability and was in need of urgent medical attention.  Teddie’s front legs were completely splayed, meaning he was unable to walk or even stand.  Teddie has “swimmers syndrome”, a development deformity and as a consequence of lying on his chest for prolonged periods he has severe breathing problems too.

Since being at Birmingham Dogs Home Teddie has had a Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome operation to help him breath, intensive physiotherapy to help him to stand and he now has splints fitted to his front legs as he learns to walk.  His life-saving treatment has cost £3,800 to-date.  He still has a long journey of recovery ahead with more surgery likely following his CT scan results.

Sybil - needs her final years to be pain free

Sybil is a very sweet little lady, a chihuahua cross.  Sybil is at least ten years old and was found as a stray and in great pain suffering from a large mammary lump.  She has now had the lump removed and we are awaiting the results of tests.  She has also had chest X-rays and blood tests and needs ongoing daily nursing and care.  She was very nervous when she came to Birmingham Dogs Home but as she starts to feel better it is lovely to see her coming out of her shell.

Bentley - his world is getting darker

Bentley is a six year old mastiff who has been at Birmingham Dogs Home for some time.  Bentley has severe eye problems and has had his left eye removed while in our care because of severe glaucoma. The cost of this treatment was £1,080.  Investigations are being carried out to discover if he has a tumour behind the right eye and we hope that with the right treatment it will be possible to save his sight.
